Light On Light Through

You'll hear a little of this and lot of that on Light On Light Through - my reviews of great television series and movies, my interviews with authors and creative media people and their interviews of me, my media theory and political commentary, thoughts about my favorite cars and food and space travel, discussions of my music, and a few of my readings from my science fiction stories. In the first years, starting in 2006, I put up a new episode at least once a month.  More recently, it became more or less often than once a month, usually less often.  But in the Summer of 2020, I began getting more in the mood to podcast, and on 17 October 2023, I began publishing a new episode of the podcast every Tuesday at 12:01 pm -- a minute after Noon (New York time).  - Paul Levinson

Welcome to Light On Light Through, Episode 80, in which you will hear the complete, uncut radio play of "The Chronology Protection Case," recorded before a live audience at the Mark Goodson Theater in the Museum of Television and Radio in New York City in September 2002.    The radio play is based on my novelette, "The Chronology Protection Case," published in Analog Magazine 1995.   The novelette was nominated for the Nebula Award by the Science Fiction Writers of America, was reprinted six times, and led to two other novelettes with the lead character - Dr. Phil D'Amato - and three novels, including The Silk Code, which won the Locus Award for Best First Novel of 1999.   Jay Kensinger released a short film based on the novelette in 2002.  Jay and I updated the movie with an extended ending in 2013;  it is available on Amazon Prime Video.

Mark Shanahan wrote the radio play, with Paul Levinson (me) and Jay Kensinger.   The script performed at the Museum of Television and Radio was nominated for an Edgar Award for Best Radio Play by the Mystery Writers of America in 2002.  Mark later recorded a studio production of the play, which was released by Audible.com.

  5. review on Martha's Bookshelf: "This is a great audio dramatization that reminded me of radio dramas from the years before television – although the quality is much better. If you enjoy listening to fun stories, this is a quick mystery with an ironically twisted plot."
